When I hear: “Dulisten: the reality of race at Loras College” this brings to mind a grand amount of aspects. I think of individuals who are of the minority population, utilizing time to express their experience navigating a white dominated education, while trying to maintain their culture heritage.
I have experienced and understood that many individuals in Dubuque, Iowa lack cultural competency and cultural humility. However, many of those same individuals were more than eager to learn more about specific culture contexts and how to appropriately respect and/or understand them.
Loras College continues to make adequate change for diversity and inclusion on campus. In the last 3 years, I believe they have done the most change for students of color and students of the LGBTQ+ community. I believe they have done this through the lens of providing proper necessities, support and spaces.
